Caribe Wave 2020 Modified in Light of Implications of COVID-19

March 19, 2020  ·  ajt

In light of the implications of Coronavirus (COVID-19), for the Caribe Wave 2020, only the communications test portion will continue as planned on March 19th, 14h00 UTC at the regional level.

According to the Director of the Nevis Disaster Management Department, Brian Dyer, “… on the receipt of the information from the Pacific Warning Tsunami Centre (PWTC) and the Basseterre Police Station, the Disaster Management Staff would analyse the messages and then contact the stakeholders and businesses in the evacuation zones, just to simulate the communication aspects of them being notified of the exercise.”

Hence, the mass evacuation drill by lowland occupants to save zones would be eliminated, this year.

This adjustment was made by the UNESCO IOC Intergovernmental Coordination Group for Tsunami and Other Coastal Hazards Warning System for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions (ICG CARIBE EWS) In light of the implications of Coronavirus (COVID-19).
