Shelter Preparedness

Pack a Go-Bag

Water, non-perishable food, flashlight, battery radio, first-aid kit, cash, copies of important documents, and supplies for at least 72 hours per person.

Know Before You Need It

Identify your nearest shelter on the map above and physically walk the route once before the storm season. Don't wait for a watch or warning to plan.

Special Circumstances

Notify the shelter manager in advance if you have mobility, medical or dietary needs. Pets may have restrictions — confirm with the shelter beforehand.

Volunteer at a Shelter

NDMD trains Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers to support shelter operations across the five parishes. Sign up online or pick up a form at the office.
