Adverse weather resulted in severe flooding in Trinidad & Tobago – Situation Report 1

October 22, 2018  ·  ajt

The Situation

On Friday October 19, 2018, torrential rains resulted in widespread flooding mainly in Eastern & Central Trinidad. The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) issued an Adverse Weather Alert #3 – Orange Level for Trinidad and Tobago, extending the period from Thursday 18th October, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. to Tuesday 23rd October, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. The TTMS advised that an active Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) continues to produce intermittent periods of rain/showers and thunderstorm activity which can lead to flash flooding and exacerbate existing riverine flooding. Showers can be heavy to torrential at times and produce damaging gusty winds. Landslides/landslips are also likely in areas so prone. Citizens are reminded that the Riverine Flood Alert #2 – Red Level is still in effect until Friday 26th October 2018 at 12:00 p.m.
