Jacob Munakwa Ngumbah is the Senior Communications Officer and also operates as Deputy Director at the Disaster Management Department of Nevis Island. Nevis Island is a twin sister Island to the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis. Through his hard work, Ngumbah has developed numerous strategic communications plans in the 4 major stages of Comprehensive Disaster Management – preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery / rehabilitation. One of such strategies include, a natural hazard-based awareness campaign, which strategically targets schools, churches, business organizations, government departments and sport groups. He is also the motivator in the formation of the association of Parish-based Disaster Communicators for the five parishes in Nevis. More so, he is the front person in the creation of the Audio Visual Studio and Print Design for the Nevis Disaster Management Communications Unit. He also authored a chapter in the book, “West Indies Health Care and Disaster Preparedness,” University of Virginia (2015).
Over the years, he has collaborated with several organizations such as USAID, OAS, CDEMA, OECS, UNESCO,UNICEF, PAHO, UNISDR, and Universities of Virginia and North Colorado. He is trained in the following academic disciplines: Planning; Project Management (IT); Journalism and Mass Communications, Disaster Risk Reduction –Leadership and Policies, Strategic Christian Ministry; Classical Piano and sound engineering; Intellectual Property and Supervisory Management.
