LONG POINT – NEVIS, NDMD [1st DECEMBER 2023] – The Nevis Disaster Management Department will commence a comprehensive Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Annual Training, scheduled from Monday, 4th December, to Friday, 8th December. The CERT Training aims to enhance the preparedness of volunteers with essential skills and knowledge in disaster management, first aid/CPR, fire safety, search and rescue, and much more, to effectively respond to emergencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of themselves, their families, and their neighbors.
The training program, overseen by Disaster Management staff, professional firefighters, Red Cross personnel, and other emergency responders, covers a range of crucial disaster response skills. The courses are strategically designed to empower CERT volunteers to play a vital role in alleviating the demand on first responders during emergencies.
The capstone of the training week includes comprehensive exams on Friday, followed by simulation exercises to ensure that CERT volunteers are well-prepared for real-world emergency scenarios.
The schedule for the CERT Refresher Training is as follows:
- Monday: Disaster Management
Time: 5 pm to 8 pm - Tuesday: First Aid/ CPR
Time: 5 pm to 8 pm - Wednesday: Fire Safety
Time: 5 pm to 8 pm - Thursday: Search and Rescue
Time: 5 pm to 8 pm - Friday: Exams and Simulation Exercise
Time: 2 pm to 8 pm
