FLASH FLOOD WATCH
ISSUED BY ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA METEOROLOGICAL SERVICES
9:20 AM ECT THU, DEC 12, 2019
ST KITTS AND NEVIS
A FLASH FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS OF ST. KITTS AND NEVIS VALID FROM 9:20 AM TODAY UNTIL 3:00 PM THIS AFTERNOON. A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT MODERATE TO MAJOR FLOODING IS POSSIBLE BUT NOT IMMINENT IN THE WATCH AREA. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
RESIDENTS IN LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS SHOULD MAKE PREPARATIONS FOR FLOODING TO SAFEGUARD LIFE AND PROPERTY. THEY SHOULD BE PREPARED TO MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND IF FLOODING RAINS DEVELOP OR A FLASH FLOOD WARNING IS ISSUED. BE AWARE OF FAST FLOWING STREAMS IN MOUNTAINOUS AREAS AS THESE COULD CREATE VERY CHALLENGING SITUATIONS WITHOUT WARNING.
AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH ENHANCING LOW LEVEL MOISTURE OVER THE LEEWARD ISLANDS IS INFLUENCING THE WEATHER CAUSING PERIODIC MODERATE TO HEAVY SHOWERS. ALREADY, UP TO 1 INCH OF RAIN HAS FALLEN IN SOME PLACES IN THE LAST 12 HOURS AND ANOTHER 2 OR MORE INCHES IS POSSIBLE IN THE NEXT 12 HOURS. HENCE, MODERATE TO MAJOR FLOODING OF LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS IS POSSIBLE.
ST. KITTS METEOROLOGICAL SERVICES WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE WEATHER SITUATION. PLEASE STAY TUNED TO LOCAL RADIO WATCH UPDATES AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.
