The Federation of St Kitts and Nevis along with other coastal States in North and Central America and the Caribbean will test their Tsunami readiness during the simulation exercise, “Caribe Wave/ Lantex 2017”, on Tuesday 21st March, 2017.

The Nevis Disaster Management Department (NDMD) encourages members of the general public and the business entities to view this exercise as an ideal opportunity to validate their operational readiness by testing their earthquake/tsunami evacuation procedures.

The activities on Nevis will seek to improve operational readiness of specially targeted entities within the Disaster Management Framework. By distributing public education materials, Tsunami Inundation Maps and ensuring appropriate tools and response plan(s) of these entities are developed.

Active participants in the Tsunami Simulation Evacuation exercise include Early Childhood Nurseries, Pre- Schools, Primary Schools, Six Form College, three major Hotels, Banking and Financial institutions, Government Departments and critical stakeholder Agencies that are located in the Tsunami Hazard Zones on the West and North Coasts.

This exercise aims to validate the accurate, timely dissemination of warnings and information to critical agencies, stakeholders and the public. In addition to improving tsunami preparedness efforts in the coastal states in our region. It is anticipated that over 1000 persons on Nevis will participate in Caribe Wave/ Lantex 2017 exercise.
