NDMD calls the Tsunami Watch Alert on Social Media Fake

March 6, 2018  ·  ajt

The Nevis Disaster Management Department has been alerted to a Tsunami Watch Alert, circulating on social media. The general public is hereby informed that this message was originally disseminated on September 5, 2012 at 14:42 (UTC), after an Earthquake impacted Costa Rica, with epicenter in Nicoya Peninsula.

The Department advices the general public to consider the timing of this message to be malicious in intent and to desist from disseminating this message.

Additionally, it is worth noting that the rough seas and high surf being experienced on St Kitts and Nevis, and other Leeward Islands are not related to tsunami activity.
