THIS IS FOR THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS
…TINY BERYL STRENGTHENING OVER THE TROPICAL ATLANTIC…
AT 500 PM AST (2100 UTC), THE CENTRE OF TROPICAL STORM BERYL WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 10.3 NORTH, LONGITUDE 42.8 WEST OR ABOUT 1395 MILES (2245 KM) EAST-SOUTHEAST OF ST.KITTS AND NEVIS. BERYL IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST NEAR 16 MPH (26 KM/H). A FAST WESTWARD TO WEST-NORTHWESTWARD MOTION IS EXPECTED THROUGH THE WEEKEND. ON THE FORECAST TRACK, THE CENTRE OF BERYL WILL REMAIN EAST OF THE LESSER ANTILLES THROUGH SUNDAY.
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE INCREASED TO NEAR 50 MPH (85 KM/H) WITH HIGHER GUSTS. THE PRESSURE IS 1004MB. ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST, AND BERYL COULD BECOME A HURRICANE BY FRIDAY OR SATURDAY. BERYL IS FORECAST TO DEGENERATE INTO AN OPEN TROUGH JUST EAST OF THE LESSER ANTILLES OVER THE WEEKEND.
BERYL IS A TINY TROPICAL STORM. TROPICAL-STORM-FORCE WINDS EXTENDOUTWARD UP TO 35 MILES (55 KM) FROM THE CENTRE.
BASED ON THE LATEST ADVISORY, THERE REMAINS CONSIDERABLE UNCERTAINTY WITH THE FUTURE MOVEMENT AND INTENSITY OF BERYL. ON ITS PRESENT PATH, BERYL IS EXPECTED TO MOVE TOWARDS THE WEST-NORTHWEST INTO AN AREA THAT WILL CAUSE IT TO WEAKEN BEFORE REACHING THE LESSER ANTILLES. NOT WITHSTANDING, RESIDENTS OF THE LEEWARD AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS ARE ADVISED TO CLOSELY MONITOR ITS PROGRESS FOR ANY SIGNIFICANT CHANGES.
