Long Point, Nevis – The Nevis Christian Council, the Nevis Evangelical Association, and the Nevis Disaster Management Department (NDMD) are pleased to announce a collaborative church service under the theme: Be Still for God will Sure Defend, dedicated to interceding for the safety and well-being of St. Kitts and Nevis. This special service will take place on Wednesday, May 29th, at the Charlestown Methodist Church (under the tent) in Charlestown, Nevis. The event is an open invitation to all members of the community to join in a communal act of faith and solidarity, seeking God’s protection and guidance throughout the upcoming hurricane season.
The upcoming 2024 Atlantic hurricane season is forecasted to be particularly active. According to the latest outlook, there is an 85% chance of an above-normal season, a 10% chance of a near-normal season, and only a 5% chance of a below-normal season. The forecasts predict between 17 to 25 named storms, with sustained winds of at least 39 mph. Out of these, 8 to 13 are expected to develop into hurricanes, with maximum sustained winds of at least 74 mph. Furthermore, 4 to 7 of these hurricanes are anticipated to reach major hurricane status (Category 3 to 5), with maximum sustained winds of at least 111 mph.
This year’s forecast for named storms, hurricanes, and major hurricanes is the highest ever issued for the May outlook.
This interfaith service is a significant opportunity for the community to come together in prayer and reflection, seeking divine intervention and protection during what is expected to be a challenging hurricane season.
All are invited to participate in this important event and to stand united in faith and preparedness.
