St. Kitts and Nevis will join other Caribbean States in an annual Regional Tsunami Drill exercise, dubbed “Caribe Wave” on the 14th March, 2019 at 10:00a.m.
The Panama scenario chosen presents a tsunami, generated by an 8.5 magnitude earthquake located on the Northern Panama Deformed Belt.
The general public, especially government institutions, businesses, faith-based organisations and residents around the coastline areas are requested to participate in this exercise.
Caribe Wave 2019 aims to improve the Tsunami Warning System effectiveness along the coasts of the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions. It further provides an opportunity for the corresponding emergency management organisations to exercise their operational lines of communications, review their tsunami response procedures and promote tsunami preparedness.
It is an initiative of the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Tsunami and Other Coastal Hazards Warning System for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions.
