TROPICAL ADVISORY #7 (TS DORIAN)
ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA METEOROLOGICAL SERVICES
11:10 AM ECT TUE, AUG 27, 2019
THIS IS FOR THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS
AT 1100 AM ECT (1500 UTC), THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM DORIAN WAS LOCATED BY DATA FROM AN AIR FORCE RECONNISANCE AIRCRAFT AND MARTINIQUE RADAR NEAR LATITUDE 14.2 NORTH, LONGITUDE 61.8 WEST OR ABOUT 220 MILES SOUTH-SOUTH EAST OF ST. KITTS & NEVIS WITH MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS OF 50 MPH.
DORIAN CONTINUES TO MOVE TOWARDS THE WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 13 MPH (20 KM/H) AND THIS MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT, FOLLOWED BY A TURN TOWARD THE NORTHWEST ON WEDNESDAY.
THE LATEST FORECAST TRACK SUGGESTS THAT THE CENTER OF DORIAN WILL MOVE ACROSS THE EASTERN AND NORTH EASTERN CARIBBEAN SEA OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS.
DORIAN IS FORECAST TO PASS A SAFE DISTANCE TO THE SOUTHWEST OF THE LEEWARDS AND BVI ON TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY RESPECTIVELY; THEREFORE, NO SIGNIFICANT WIND IMPACTS ARE EXPECTED OVER THESE ISLANDS; IT SHOULD BE NOTED, HOWEVER, THAT ANY SIGNIFICANT SHIFT TO THE NORTH COULD BRING DORIAN CLOSER TO THE BVI’S; HENCE, RESIDENTS IN THESE ISLANDS IN PARTICULAR ARE ADVISED TO CLOSELY MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS SYSTEM AND BE PREPARED TO ACT IF NECESSARY.
IT IS POSSIBLE THAT OUTER RAIN BANDS OF DORIAN COULD PRODUCE RAINFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 2 TO 3 INCHES OVER THE LEEWARDS AND BVI ACCOMPANIED BY GUSTY CONDITIONS MAINLY IN SHOWERS BEGINNING TOMORROW AFTERNOON BUT NO STORM WATCHES OR WARNINGS ARE REQUIRED FOR THESE ISLANDS AT THIS TIME.
RESIDENTS OF THE LEEWARDS AND MORE-SO THE BVI ARE ADVISED TO CONTINUE MONITORING THE PROGRESS OF DORIAN UNTIL IT CLEARS THE AREA.
