POTENTIAL TROPICAL CYCLONE 96L ALERT STATEMENT

THIS IS FOR THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS
AT 8 PM ECT OR 00Z POTENTIAL TROPICAL CYCLONE 96L WAS LOCATED A LITTLE OVER 1000 MILES EAST OF THE WINDWARD ISLANDS.
THIS AREA OF LOW PRESSURE IS MOVING WEST TO WEST NORTH WEST AT ABOUT 20MPH AND CONTINUES TO SHOW SIGNS OF ORGANIZATION. IT NOW HAS A 80% CHANCE OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE IN 48 HOURS AND A 90 CHANCE OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE OVER THE NEXT FIVE DAYS.
POTENTIAL CYCLONE 96L POSES NO IMMEDIATE THREAT TO THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS. HOWEVER BASED UPON THE LATEST POSITION AND ANALYSES, THIS AREA OF LOW PRESSURE COULD BE UPGRADED TO A TROPICAL CYCLONE WITHIN THE NEXT DAY OR TWO AND COULD BE IN THE VICINITY OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS WITHIN THE NEXT FIVE DAYS. IF THIS TREND PERSISTS, TROPICAL CYCLONE WATCHES MAY BECOME NECESSARY OVER THE WEEKEND.
ALL RESIDENTS IN THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS ARE URGED TO CONTINUE TO CLOSELY MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF POTENTIAL TROPICAL CYCLONE 96L.
